Bourg Argental

Bourg Argental

I've had a lot of Sarah time the last couple of days, which has been quite nice (no offence, boys!). After stopping for a very picturesque lunch next to the Rhone I dropped the boys off in Chavenay for the first of their mountain-climbing rides.

Stopped in a carpark I waited till I'd seen the boys turn the corner before getting ready to head off, and just as I had let the handbrake off a guy appeared at the window – I think he was asking me for a cigarette lighter. I said no, sorry, and he said something else, which I couldn't catch (quite possibly not the textbook french I've been taught, either) and I said something in return that was enough to get him out of the window of the van – good enough for me! A little shaken by the intrusion to my afternoon – I set off.

A little nervous about trying to get the van over the mountain pass by myself, I went a different way to the campsite than the boys. I managed to set up and read for a couple of hours before they arrived.

All reports were that it was hot, but a good ride. The view in the background of their photos is pretty impressive!

We decided on another night in the town – Bourg Argental – so that the boys could do some more mountain riding and I could look around. It was a scorcher – 37 degrees! - so I considered a pre-midday beer warranted :)
