Graham's Birthday (7 July)

We decided on a sleep in today, as it appears sleeping is one of Graham's favourite things to do. I tried my hand at toads in the hole – not bad – and chorizo and bacon omelettes for the others.

We had decided to do some sight-seeing at nearby Chateau Chambord, one of the biggest (400 rooms!) and most visited chateaus in France.

Not really what you'd call a homely place, it was built and rebuilt and updated so many times, that I don't think anyone of it's residents ever got to enjoy the work they commissioned. There is probably no one who has actually been inside all of the rooms, and never an occasion to light all of the 200+ fireplaces!

We had an attack of the giggles for some reason, so it was a pretty enjoyable day over all. We managed to see the end of the tour stage in a random bar, before setting up camp and cooking a somewhat hap-hazard birthday dinner (nachos followed by raspberry tart and hargen-daaz ice cream). I hope Graham enjoyed the day too!
