Bilbao

Heading to Bilbao was a bit of a last minute decision – we weren't sure if we were going to make it as it involved a bit of backtracking. I'm so glad we went – I really wanted to see the Guggenheim there, and it didn't disappoint.

We'd read somewhere that Bilbao wasn't a very pretty city, but I was pleasantly surprised. It had a very American feel to it for me. The Guggenheim is immediately visible, and quite spectacular on first viewing. I guess an enormous titanium structure resembling a ship is always going to stand out though!

We did the free audio tour – not something we do everywhere – and I loved learning about the design and construction of the building. The architect, Frank Gehry, was obviously quite passionate about his project. I think I enjoyed this more than I enjoyed the things on the inside of the building.

I'm definitely not an art connoisseur, I just know what I do and don't like. Even things I don't like often I can understand why the artist wanted to create it that way – not everyone has to like everything. But some of the installations in that museum – definitely not for me!
