Wow. I'm not sure I have the words for the climb up to the top. It took 33 minutes in the van, and it was incredible how quickly the town below melted away below. I'm very glad that I'm not going to be attempting to get up here on a bike. All of the mountainside spots for vans were already taken, but once we got to the top we found one of the huge camping-car places with about 350 other vans there already. Ross and Graham jumped out and managed to find us a great spot between two other vans, where someone had just come out from.
The facilities at the top of the mountain were so much better than we were expecting, with supermarkets, restaurants, pharmacies, bars, etc, all right there. So were weren't roughing it anywhere near as much as we had expected we might!
I've been feeling pretty sick today – I think I'm coming down with a cold, so I'm not really looking forward to a couple of days without the creature comforts of a readily accessible toilet block, but at the same time, I'm very excited about camping on our own in the van. We bought a decked out van for this purpose, and we have everything we need to be self-sufficient (we hope!).
It's freezing, but breathtakingly beautiful, and it's very exciting to be here. The next few days of racing are going to be very important to Cadel, and we're all nervous about the outcomes!
